What is behavior in trading terms?

When talking about behavior in trading, there is a very simple way to understand it. Think back to the time when you got angry on the charts and ended up revenge trading after a big loss. In that moment the action of revenging was a show of bad behavior, because you felt the need to chase the loss you just took.
Imagine your back in school (I know I know), but just think back. Remember when a teacher would get angry at you, and when you were younger, you'd probably shout back. That's the same concept, your behavior then got you in trouble. Right?
Same in trading, your behavior will get you in trouble if you don't control it.

What are bad behaviors in trading?

  1. Revenging- This is the most important when were talking about bad trading behaviors, because this is the most obvious. That feeling of anger after you took a loss in trading, remember it? we all get it, no matter the trader. The difference is, we don't let it manifest into revenge. Revenge is a bitter emotion, and usually you never actually achieve what you wanted to in the action of taking revenge.
  2. Over trading - This is the second most essential, as its actually probably more common. More dangerous than a loss is when you win. Confusing? it should be. Well, when you win, you get cocky, confident and impulsive. You'd think "there's no way I could lose now" WRONG. everytime. WRONG. There is always a way you can lose, you respected your strategy? good, now take a break. More people lose Evals and money to this than you'd think.
  3. FOMO - FOMO has always been a weird trading behavior to me, but its most definitely a negative one. If you didn't know, FOMO = Fear Of Missing Out. Meaning you let your mind convince you to take bad trades in the fear that your losing some promised profit. Remember this, nothing is promised to you, not even waking up in the morning is promised. This is a silly one for some people, but a big one for others. If you ever feel FOMO just remind yourself that today probably isn't the day.

What are good behaviors in trading though?

In my opinion, good behaviors are not so black and white as the bad ones are. Good behaviors specifically in trading are a little more broad. The practice of controlling emotions after a loss for example. That's a good behavior. The practice of simply knowing the market owes you nothing, that's also a good behavior. See what I mean, its very binary stuff.
My suggestion would be, practice your good behaviors by working on your bad ones, then the good will manifest through your entire trading journey, rather than being something easily noticeable.
